$1,000,000 in funding for advanced charging and energy management solutions.

Ontario’s R&D Partnership Fund – Advanced Charging and Vehicle-to-Grid (“V2G”) Stream is advertising grants of 33% up to $1,000,000 for projects that expedite the shift to vehicle electrification. Their aim is to advance the development and commercialization of Ontario-made charging and energy management technologies, including:

  • Advanced charging solutions: wireless, high-speed, bidirectional, dynamic, and smart charging
  • V2G technologies for enhanced interoperability and scalability
  • Systems for energy demand and grid management
  • Integration of zero-emissions technologies with renewable energy in charging infrastructure
  • Energy storage and transmission innovations, focusing on battery and hydrogen technologies
  • Solutions aimed at improving energy management and augmenting grid capacity

The investment committee will prioritize the development of practical, market-ready solutions that promote cleaner transportation, reduce environmental impacts, and enhance energy system efficiencies.

Project Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible projects must be less than 24 months in duration, require at least one applicant as well as a primary partner in an arm’s-length relationship and carry out the core activities in Ontario at a technology readiness level 3-9, focusing on the development to deployment stages.

Eligibility Applicant Criteria:
  • Small and medium enterprises (“SME”) with fewer than 500 global full-time employees.
  • Must have operations in Ontario.
  • Limited to one active R&D Partnership Fund project at a time.
  • Applicants with over $500,000 in OCI funding need OCI approval for new applications.
Eligible Partners Criteria: (No limit on the number of partners)
  • SMEs, national and multi-national enterprises
  • Academic institutions (clients only) and not-for-profits,
  • Municipalities, local utilities, transit authorities, crown corporations and indigenous communities

The intake period for this program opens April 1st 2024 and starts with an initial EOI prior to a full proposal.
